Biot Stone Step-by-Step:
Tying The Biot Stone Step 1 of 16 Place the bead on the hook and star the thread IN FRONT of the bead.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 2 of 16 Tie in two opposed biots for the antennae just behind the eye of the hook. Trim the butt ends of the biots and whip finish and cut the thread.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 3 of 16 Start the thread behind the bead and wrap a thread base back to the bend and then forward to the starting point.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 4 of 16 Tie a short length of lead wire down each side of the hook to create a wide underbody.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 5 of 16 Bring the thread back to the bend and tie in another opposed set of biots for the tails. Wrap over the butt ends and clip. Smooth the taper from the base of the biots up to the lead wire with several turns of thread.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 6 of 16 Tie in the tip of a turkey biot with the notch facing up at the bend of the hook. Bring the thread forward to just in front of the hook point.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 7 of 16 Wrap the biot forward to the mid-point on the shank and tie it off. Clip the excess.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 8 of 16 Tie in another biot at the end of the first and wrap it the rest of the way up the shank. Tie off the biot and clip at the fifty percent point.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 9 of 16 Tie in two turkey tail slips, one on top of the other, with their insides facing up at the front of the biot abdomen.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 10 of 16 Dub the thorax loosely with the gold dubbing.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 11 of 16 Prepare a hen saddle feather by stripping the base and clipping the center stem leaving the V-shaped tip shown here.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 12 of 16 Tie the base of the prepared hen feather in at the front of the thorax so it lies flat across the top of the dubbing.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 13 of 16 Pull both turkey slips forward over the hen saddle feather and thorax and tie them down behind the eye. Clip the excess.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 14 of 16 Coat the top of the wingcase with a dollop of five minute epoxy. Wait for it to dry before continuing.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 15 of 16 Dub a short collar at the front of the fly right behind the bead and whip finish the thread.
Tying The Biot Stone Step 16 of 16 Use a brown marker to mottle the top of the fly, including the biot tails and antennae.
