Tying The 20 Incher Step 1 of 15

Place the bead on the hook and push it up to the eye. Make about a dozen turns of lead wire around the shank. Break off the ends of the lead and push the wraps up into the back of the bead. Start the thread at the back of the lead wrap and make a thread base back to the bend.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 2 of 15

Tie in two goose biots at the bend of the hook so they are opposed.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 3 of 15

Wrap forward over the butt ends of the biots to the back of the lead wraps.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 4 of 15

Dub a tapered underbody from the bend to about the 80 percent point.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 5 of 15

Tie in a strand of tan floss and wrap back over it to the bend.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 6 of 15

Tie in a half dozen peacock herls by their tips and wrap back over them to the bend.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 7 of 15

Wrap the peacock forward forming a thick abdomen. Tie off the peacock at the 80 percent point and clip.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 8 of 15

Spiral wrap the floss forward over the abdomen and tie if off at the front. Clip the excess.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 9 of 15

Tie in a turkey tail slip on top of the abdomen at the seventy percent point with the inside of the feather facing up.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 10 of 15

Prepare a partridge body feather by stripping the base and preening the fibers back from the tip as shown.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 11 of 15

Tie in the partridge body feather by its tip with the inside of the feather facing up right on top of the turkey slip.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 12 of 15

Dub the front of the hook to form a full thorax right up to the back of the bead.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 13 of 15

Pull the partridge feather forward over the top of the dubbed thorax and tie it down behind the bead.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 14 of 15

Pull the turkey slip forward over the top of both the partridge feather and the thorax and tie it down behind the bead as well. Clip the butt ends of the partridge and the turkey.

Tying The 20 Incher Step 15 of 15

Dub a small collar behind the bead to hide the wingcase stubs and whip finish.
