Beadhead Prince Nymph Recipe

  • Hook: TMC 5262 #4-16
  • Thread: Black 8/0
  • Bead: Gold, sized to hook
  • Weight: Lead or lead free wire
  • Tail: Brown Goose biots
  • Rib: Gold oval Tinsel
  • Body: Peacock Herl
  • Hackle: Brown Hen Neck hackle
  • Horns: White Goose Biots

Step-by-Steps:

Tying The Prince Nymph

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 1 of 8

Place the bead on the hook and make several turns of lead wire around the shank. Push the lead wraps into the back of the bead. Tie in two opposed biots at the bend of the hook for the tail and wrap forward over the butt ends to the base of the lead. Trim the excess biots. Tie in a strand of oval tinsel at the front of the hook and wrap back over it to the bend. Return the thread to the front of the hook.

Tie in several strand of peacock herl at the back of the bead and wrap back over them to the bend.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 3 of 8

Wrap the peacock forward to the bead and tie off, forming a slightly tapered body as you go. Clip the excess peacock herls.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 4 of 8

Spiral wrap the tinsel forward over the body to the front and tie it off. Clip the excess.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 5 of 8

Tie in a hen neck feather by its butt at the front of the peacock herl.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 6 of 8

Wrap the hackle feather forward about three turns and tie it off. Clip the tip of the feather.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 7 of 8

Place two white biots on top of the fly right behind the bead and tie them in place with several firm wraps of thread. Trim the butt ends of the biots close.

Tying The Prince Nymph Step 8 of 8

Build a smooth thread head to cover the stubs and whip finish. Clip the thread.
