Start the thread two eye lengths back and wrap a thread base to the bend. Return the thread to the starting point and tie in a third of a strand of tan sparkle yarn.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 2 of 14

Pull the end of the yarn down around the shank of the hook and wrap back over it to the bend.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 3 of 14

Return the thread to mid-point on the shank.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 4 of 14

Dub a reverse tapered abdomen with the thread ending at the bend of the hook.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 5 of 14

Wrap the thread forward over the dubbed abdomen in open spiral wraps to the front.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 6 of 14

Press the yarn forward on the bend of the hook so it encircles the body.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 7 of 14

Pull the yarn tightly forward beyond the hook eye.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 8 of 14

Push the yarn back to create some slack over the body.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 9 of 14

Tie off the yarn at the front of the abdomen.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 10 of 14

Use the tips of your scissors to pull out a bit of the yarn on the top of the fly. Cut this bit of yarn close to the front of the body so it will trail back off the back of the fly.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 11 of 14

Clip the excess yarn from the front of the fly and build a thread base over the butt ends.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 12 of 14

Peel a few marabou fibers from the feather.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 13 of 14

Tie the marabou fibers in by their tips at the front of the body. Clip the excess tips.

Tying The Sparkle Caddis Pupae Step 14 of 14

Wrap the marabou fibers forward to the eye and tie them off with a couple turns of thread. Clip the excess marabou. Build a smooth thread head and whip finish. Trim the thread.
