Sand Bar Tarpon!

This photo is an example of what every salt water fly fisherman dreams about! How much better can it get? Calm winds, shallow water, all white sand bar bottom and of course a school of 30 giant tarpon migrating by about 30ft from you. NICE!

These conditions are great for memories but can be challenging to hook. There are a number of reasons for the fish to be none responsive in this situation.

• These tarpon are migrating. They are not interested in anything other than mating or going where they want to go.


• Tarpon are nocturnal feeders. So food is not something they are looking for.
• On all white sand bars it is un natural to see crabs, shrimp, or baitfish. The bottom doesn't have any protection for them. So fish are used to not seeing much natural food on the white so they are not looking for it there.
• Calm conditions can put fish on extra guard. Add shallow water to this and you start getting into super spooky mode.

With all this said its tuff to beat the beauty of these huge fishing super clear water!
