Welcome To The West Coast!

Hello, and welcome to Fly Fisherman's West Coast blog, which might better be called Steelhead Fever or Salmon Dreams or Chrome Jones or Feel the Swing.  Here we'll be talking mostly about two-handed rods, ocean-bright salmon and steelhead, and the fly fishing life on the western fringe of the nation, a place of ferns and firs and emerald water.

You can expect posts that will make you a more effective angler, like those on fly design, casting technique, and presentation secrets.  You can also expect thorough product reviews with the committed steelhead and salmon angler in mind, including reviews on new spey rods and cutting edge fly lines.  But this blog will be about more than just technique and tackle; it will keep you up to date with the latest news in the fight to restore salmon and steelhead populations throughout their native range.  And it will keep you abreast of our emerging culture through book reviews and interviews with angling legends.

My name is John Larison, and besides guiding for summer and winter steelhead, I'm also a River Steward for the Native Fish Society.  I live and breathe rivers, rods, and bright fish, and hope to convey that passion through vivid photos and well-considered words.  If you find yourself with a question or comment--either about a post or about salmon and steelhead or rods or whatever--please don't hesitate to pass it along.  My favorite blogs are those that morph into a community of sorts.
