Motivationally speaking, fly fishing for trout in the winter in northern climes has always been a bit challenging . But with many modern fabrics and apparel and outerwear designs and innovations, we anglers are running out of excuses . If you go about it thoughtfully and carefully, anglers can stay perfectly warm on most winter days on the river.
Such is the case with Grundens’ Windward Gore-Tex® Infinium Insulated Jacket. Its shell is a combination of Gore-Tex® 70d Infinium Upper Shell Fabric, which is bulletproof against wind and moisture, along with a woven baffle fabric to aid with fit. It’s then stuffed with two different densities of Primaloft insulation. The result is a jacket that will keep you warm and dry on the coldest and blusteriest winter days, so that you can stay until the trout really get going on the midges.
It’s not particularly heavy nor bulky, and it fits and looks good. You won’t regret making this upgrade if you’re serious about fishing year round anywhere it snows.
