Sage Announces Salt R8 Fly Rod

Fly rod manufacturer Sage has introduced its latest saltwater fly rod line: the Salt R8 series. This new rod family leverages the company’s Revolution 8 Technology to combine strength and feel to provide anglers with the advantages that are regularly needed in tough saltwater conditions.

“These rods have been designed a little bit easier to load, and so they're a little bit quicker out of the hand,” Sage Rod Designer Peter Knox said in a press release. “Having that touch to just flip a little cast in there, land the fly with enough time to sink, 'cause that fish isn't very happy–that can spell out the difference between success and failure on any given day.”

R8 Technology is the eighth major rod-building innovation from the company and is the first time in over 20 years that Sage has developed a completely new graphite composition. The material combines strength and feel with the goal of providing a superior angler experience.

Sage sent its team to South Florida to research first-hand what guides and anglers wanted and needed. The rod designers talked to shops, guides, and scientists, and listened to the stories and legends, “to truly understand what was happening on the water and what was really required to shape and hone a more perfect tool for saltwater sight fishing.”
